This page is a tribute to my Uncle John Speer. John suffers with multiple sclerosis (M.S.), an autoimmune disease for which there is no cure. John is currently 41 years old (he'll be 42 on April 10th) and a quadriplegic. John's M.S. was diagnosed when he was 33 years old. His initial symptoms included numbness and tingling in his left side, one eye would dilate at times, he began having challenges with his motor ability and difficulty pronouncing words at times. He would have intermittent flu-like symptoms.
When he was a young man, Uncle John was the most athletic, fun uncle any kid could hope to have as you can clearly see from the photos we've posted here. It saddens me to see him captive within his own body but his spirit and attitude remain incredibly positive despite his life circumstances. He remains an incredible inspiration to me to this very day. My Uncle John truly is AN UNCOMMON HERO!!!
